Initiatives

Tourism & Culture

The geographical location of the U.A.E. has enabled the country to become a global hub between Asia, Europe, North America, and Africa.  Currently, the U.A.E. plays host to several different exhibitions and major sporting events throughout the calendar year.  In 2009, the Emirates hosted the Dubai World Cup, the Dubai Desert Golf Classic Tournament, and the much-anticipated Abu Dhabi Formula-1 Grand Prix championship.  Etihad Airways and United Airlines, both members of the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council, continue to make travel to the Emirates more convenient with the additions of new destinations and non-stop flights.  The Business Council will continue to partner with key members Etihad Airways, Jumeirah, and the Tourism Development and Investment Company to promote new business opportunities and help them expand their growth.

Culture

Art and culture play a central role in enhancing international relations and developing understanding between the U.A.E. and the United States. The New York-based Guggenheim Museum will establish a world-class museum in the U.A.E. devoted to modern and contemporary art. The Business Council is working with Guggenheim and New York University to advance their cultural efforts throughout the region

Women

The U.A.E. guarantees equal rights for both men and women. Within the U.A.E. women are playing a central role in education, government, and business. There are four U.A.E. women cabinet ministers—including Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Foreign Trade Minister, who was on Forbes magazine’s 2007 list of the 100 most powerful women in the world. The U.A.E. is creating a model for women’s rights in the region. Vital Voices, a Washington-based nongovernmental organization, and the U.S. State Department organized the MENA Businesswomen’s Network. The goal is to build a network of businesswomen, expand the number of women in business, increase the value of their businesses, advance the role of women in society, while promoting a regional culture of women's entrepreneurship. Among the network’s seven founding members is the Dubai Business Women’s Council, an Honorary member of the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council.
