The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council hosted a luncheon in honor of a visiting U.S. Congressional Delegation on May 2nd, 2018 in Dubai. The delegation – which included Representative Bob Goodlatte R-VA, Representative John Curtis R-UT, Representative Mike Bishop R-MI, Representative Kenny Marchant R-TX, Representative Henry Cuellar D-TX, and Representative Sheila Jackson Lee D-TX – met with Dubai-based American business executives to discuss the overall business environment in the U.A.E.

Consul General Paul Malik, U.S. Consulate General in Dubai, and Mr. Danny Sebright, President of the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council, opened the discussion by highlighting the overall U.S.-U.A.E. bilateral relationship.

Mr. Sebright said, “The U.A.E. is the largest recipient of U.S. exports in the region for nine years running. These exports helped support an estimated 120 thousand American jobs in 2017. These trade numbers highlight the trust the U.A.E. has in U.S. goods and services as it seeks to become one of the most advanced countries in the world.”

The attending guests, which represented the U.S. technology, manufacturing, transportation, and banking industries in the U.A.E., were eager to share their companies’ stories and why they made Dubai their regional headquarters. One major motif throughout the discussion was Dubai’s leading role as an innovation and logistics hub.

Mr. Sebright added, “The U.A.E. has long been one of America’s most trusted strategic partners in the region. The fact that there are over 60 thousand American expats and over 1,000 U.S. companies operating here is a testament to this partnership.”

The Congressional Delegation met with senior Emirati government officials in Abu Dhabi before completing their visit by touring the Expo 2020 Dubai site.
