Visit by Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat Affords Successful Week of Public Diplomacy Engagement in the U.A.E.

The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council concluded a successful week of engagement in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi with Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat, a prominent American diplomat who formerly served as U.S. Ambassador to the European Union, U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, and Chief White House Domestic Policy Advisor to President Jimmy Carter.

On Sunday, April 7th, the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council hosted Ambassador Eizenstat for a luncheon discussion with senior U.S. business executives in Dubai, where Ambassador Eizenstat expanded on his public service in four U.S. administrations, his career in politics and law, and his new book “President Carter: The White House Years.”

Later that day, U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council President Danny Sebright and Ambassador Eizenstat toured the Expo 2020 Dubai site and received a progress report on the mega event, which will run from October 2020 to April 2021.

On Monday, April 8th, Mr. Sebright and Ambassador Eizenstat met with the U.A.E. Minister for Artificial Intelligence His Excellency Omar Al Olama to discuss the U.A.E.’s pioneering role in technology. That afternoon, Ambassador Eizenstat met with the Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Sheikh Sultan Al-Qasimi before delivering remarks about his career and book to students at the American University of Sharjah.

At a second event, on Wednesday, April 10th, the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council hosted Ambassador Stu Eizenstat for a luncheon discussion in Abu Dhabi with American and Emirati business leaders from a variety of different sectors. He subsequently paid a visit to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, one of the region’s leading hospitals.

At the end of the week, on Thursday, April 11th, Ambassador Eizenstat delivered a lecture about American politics and his new book at NYU Abu Dhabi. He also spoke with students at the Emirates Diplomatic Academy, about his role in advising four U.S. presidents, Middle East Peace-making and other international negotiations.
